I'm sorry I've been away from blogging for so long! I arrived in Liberia last week, and since then, it has been difficult to find a really good internet connection. That paired with working long hours has made it hard to post. But I will try to write as much as I can! Here are a few updates:
I have been struggling during my first week. My return to Liberia didn't carry the same excitement that the first trip did, even though I believe that I am supposed to be here to write about the development and people of an underreported, traumatized country. I am missing my family and friends and community. One of my friends told me that I had too much fun when I was back in D.C., and I think he is right. The transition is difficult right now, but I am persevering!
I worked very hard this week. I've conducted at least 9 interviews that I can remember right now, including those for a story I'm working on about new businesses in Liberia and Liberians who are coming back to their homeland to start new businesses. These developments are huge signs of hope to the people of Liberia.
It has been great to re-connect with folks here. When I left, I didn't get to say goodbye to many people because I had malaria. "For long!" (Liberian for,"You've been gone for so long!") has been the standard greeting I've been getting on the street! I've been glad to see people that I know here.
Thanks for your prayers.

Glad you were able to find a internet connection. It was really good to read your
blog.
