I'm up late and cannot sleep. I usually collapse around 10 p.m. and sleep soundly through thenight until the roosters crow around 6:30 a.m. I'm having a hard time sleeping tonight for some reason. There's a big thunderstorm outside. The lightening is flashing all around. The thunder is grumbling. And so I am writing. How very Edgar Allen Poe of me.
I've been working on some interesting stories this week — including a story about the motorbike business here in Ganta. One doesn't see many cars in this no-stoplight town. It is overrun with bikers — including young ones who aren't going to school because one can make “fast money” by transporting passengers on the bikes. I'll keep you posted.
School is going well. I have more than 100 essays to grade this week, but my students are making some progress in their composition skills, and I'm happy about that. They are on a two-week break beginning tomorrow, but I'm still holding tutoring classes while they are on break. I hope some students come!
I'm also starting a reading group for students who want to get better at reading comprehension. The problem is finding appropriate material for the students to read. Any suggestions out there? My students are about on a sixth or seventh grade reading level.
I'll check back soon! I haven't had Internet access in about two weeks! I write these posts at night, and then I post them whenever I have Internet access. So that is why you may see five or six posts pop up on one day!

Sorry that I know only a few authors.
The Golden Goblet
The Bronze Bow
The Phantom Tollbooth
Redwall
Where the Red Fern Grows
Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli
The Giver by Lois Lowry
The City of Ember
My Side of the Mountain
There must be a lot more that I'm not thinking of, and I'm not sure that all those books would be as appopriate (interest-wise) for the students in Liberia, but I hope this helps.
